Assemblage

Why do we say ‘Assemblage’ rather than vintage?

Because we believe in transparency.

Many winemakers routinely take advantage of laws that allow them to add as much as 15% or even 25% of earlier or later vintages without revealing that they have done so. It is something that has always happened over the centuries and, when it’s done well, there’s nothing wrong with judiciously blending vintages to improve the quality and style of the wine that will end up in the bottle.

But… When we set out to produce K’AVSHIRI - a wine unlike any that anyone has made before - we wanted to invite people to join us on this journey. So, after discovering the contribution adding 5% of 2021 vintage Rkatsiteli and Krakhuna made to the 2022 vintage of our first release, we decided to use the word ‘assemblage’ rather than ‘vintage’.

The 2023 Red Assemblage is an extraordinary blend of

2023 - 42%
2022 - 33%
2021 - 15%
2020 - 2%
2018 - 8%

Future releases may have more or less wine from other harvests, or even none, depending on what we think will make the best final blend. Whatever we decide, we’ll reveal it on the back label of every bottle. - along with the list of the grape varieties.
